ABOUT THE CCA

A Civic Association Built on Connection.

The CCA is a voluntary, resident-led community organization. We are not a homeowners association or a government agency.

WHAT

A Neighbor-Led Association

Residents participate voluntarily to share information, plan events, advocate for the neighborhood, and strengthen community life.

WHY

Founded for Integration

Black and white residents founded the CCA in 1968 to support successful neighborhood integration during a turbulent era.

TODAY

Practical Civic Connection

CCA volunteers coordinate communications, events, beautification, city liaison work, neighbor outreach, advocacy, grants, and donations.

OUR MISSION

Preserve What Is Special. Welcome What Is Next.

We connect neighbors, celebrate the Carillon neighborhood's history and diversity, support civic participation, and create cultural benefits for Richmond. Inclusion, neighborly connection, practical advocacy, and philanthropy remain at the heart of the work.

Residents can expect timely neighborhood information, open community meetings, ways to volunteer, and help finding the right public resource.

A SHORT HISTORY

Milestones Shaped by Neighbors

1932

The Virginia War Memorial Carillon is completed in Byrd Park as the Commonwealth's memorial to Virginians who served in World War I.

1968

Black and white residents establish the CCA, working together to nurture successful neighborhood integration and housing equality.

1972

The CCA creates Arts in the Park, beginning a volunteer-supported tradition that grows into a major Richmond arts festival and the association's largest fundraiser.

Today

Neighbors continue that legacy through service, advocacy, communication, events, beautification, and support for community organizations.

More About the Neighborhood and the Carillon

The neighborhood sits just west of Byrd Park and takes its name from the 240-foot Virginia War Memorial Carillon. The tower, designed by Ralph Adams Cram's firm, is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places.
